Our Commitments

Reaching outwardly, the following eight Metropolis of Denver Philoptochos Projects are funded by chapter Stewardship commitments to the metropolitan treasury. This permits each chapter to give based on its personal financial status and income.

Make checks payable to Metropolis of Denver Philoptochos, earmarked for the respective Fund, and send to the Metropolitan Philoptochos Treasurer, Ms. Elaine Cladis, c/o Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver, 4550 East Alameda Avenue, Denver, CO 80246.

Religious Education Fund
This fund was established to support religious education programs throughout the Metropolis including Sunday School and adult education.

The fund drive is in September. Ms. Irene Cassis chairs this fund.

Youth Endowment Fund
This fund was established by the 2007 Metropolis of Denver Clergy/Laity Assembly held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to provide a dependable and adequate income of monies to cover operational expenses of the Youth and Young Adult Ministries Office.

The fund drive is in October. Ms. Irene Cassis chairs this fund.

Mission and Prison Ministries Fund
The purpose of this fund is to assist our mission parishes without the benefit of full-time clergy and to provide financial assistance to our metropolis young adults participating in mission trips sponsored by the Mission Center in St. Augustine, Florida.

It also supports Orthodox Christian Prison Ministries (OCPM) which is dedicated to the love and support of prisoners and their families, and to help prepare them for their transition into society.

The fund drive is in November. Ms. Kim Pappas chairs this project.

Orthodox Christian Fellowship Fund
The mission of Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) is to support fellowships on college campuses, whose members experience and witness to the Orthodox Christian Church through community life, prayer, service to others and study of the Faith.

The fund drive is in January. Ms. Elizabeth Beck chairs this fund.

Bishop Anthimos Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships to candidates from our metropolis who desire to pursue a spiritual education at Holy Cross School of Theology. The endowment fund is not at $132,00, close to the $150,000 goal.

The fund drive is in February. Ms. Elaine Cladis chairs this project.

Youth Ministries Fund
At the 1999 Albuquerque Biennial Philoptochos Conference, the (then) Diocese of Denver Youth and Young Adult Ministries was added as our sixth (then) Diocesan Philoptochos Project. It is the fastest growing ministry in our metropolis. Financial contributions to the Youth and Young Adults Ministries will be used to support financial assistance for youth activities.

The fund drive is in March. Ms. Irene Cassis chairs this fund.

Social Services Fund
This fund was established to provide financial assistance to individuals when the local chapter does not have sufficient funds to assist. All metropolitan chapters are eligible to apply for funds.

The fund drive is in April. Ms. Georgia Carson chairs this fund.

Nativity of St. John the Baptist Women’s Monastery
The main purpose of the monastery is to provide housing and support to women engaged in the spiritual pursuit of Orthodox monasticism. This Women’s Monastery of the Metropolis of Denver is the first English-speaking monastery to follow the Typikon (order of service), as implemented by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

The fund drive is in May. Ms. Klea Kappos chairs this fund.

Supported Projects

The Metropolis of Denver has established two projects to enlighten, inform, and assist all chapters.

Philogramma
The metropolitan newsletter which is mailed directly to each member three times a year. Its purpose is to stimulate communication and unity among the chapters within the metropolis by informing, building enthusiasm and sharing chapter expertise.

Here for You Grief Packets
This is an outreach to our people. Packets of Orthodox materials from various religious and contemporary writers from various religious and contemporary writers, dealing with specific subjects for the use of the clergy and Philoptochos, are available to be given as gifts of love. The first packet dealt with Mourning, Grief and the Resurrection. Since then, three additional packets dealing with Baptism, Marriage and Long-term Illness and Suffering have become available. The packets are available at cost. This program has met with enthusiastic support.
